Learning Primitive Shapes in Cartoon Designs
نویسندگان
چکیده
Character design is a key ingredient to the success of any comicbook, graphic novel, or animated feature. Artists typically use shape, size and proportion as the first design layer to express role, physicality and personality traits. In this paper, we propose a knowledge mining framework that extracts primitive shape features from finished art, and trains models with labeled metadata attributes. The applications are in shape-based query of character databases as well as label-based generation of basic shape scaffolds, providing an informed starting point for sketching new characters. It paves the way for more intelligent shape indexing of arbitrary well-structured objects in image libraries. Furthermore, it provides an excellent tool for novices and junior artists to learn from the experts. We first describe a novel primitive based shape signature for annotating character body-parts. We then use support vector machine to classify these characters using their body part’s shape signature as features. The proposed data transformation is computationally light and yields compact storage. We report substantial improvement in the learning performance of our shape representation compared to a low-level point feature representation using five popular machine-learning techniques.

Shape Stylized Face Caricatures
Facial caricatures exaggerate key features to emphasize unique structural and personality traits. It is quite a challenge to retain the identity of the original person despite the exaggerations. We find that primitive shapes are well known for representing certain personality traits, in art and psychology literature. Unfortunately, current automated caricature generation techniques ignore the r...
متن کاملFlag-transitive Point-primitive symmetric designs and three dimensional projective special linear groups
The main aim of this article is to study (v,k,λ)-symmetric designs admitting a flag-transitive and point-primitive automorphism group G whose socle is PSL(3,q). We indeed show that the only possible design satisfying these conditions is a Desarguesian projective plane PG(2,q) and G > PSL(3,q).

Let $G$ be an automorphism group of a $2$-$(v,k,4)$ symmetric design $mathcal D$. In this paper, we prove that if $G$ is flag-transitive point-primitive, then the socle of $G$ cannot be an exceptional group of Lie type.

متن کاملA Comparative Study into “Gere Geometric Designs” in Islamic Architecture and Principle of “Perceptual Creation” in the Mystical Thoughts of Ibn Arabi
This article is an analytic and comparative study into abstract patterns of geometric designs, as one of the most significant spaces in the Islamic architecture, and the principle of perceptual creation. It has a comparative approach to investigate equivalence, effigy, and analogies between the micro and macro systems (in the hierarchical system of the universe). In the mystical cosmology of Ib...
